Big birthday party

Feeling fine
Enjoyed another workout on the elliptical trainer, this time beginning to work the arms, too. I somehow managed to escape the cold that was starting on the weekend. Cutting back on workouts probably has helped.

Sending the cold on its way
I've reduced all my workouts this week to 20 minutes to ensure the cold that started to develop on the weekend goes away, as next week I'm off on a magazine assignment that will take me from Phoenix to Savannah via Key West.

Hello, elliptical trainer!
A neighbour was on the treadmill so I jumped on the elliptical machine in our gym. When I've tried it in the past, my calves would have trouble going past five minutes. Today, I churned away for 20 minutes.
I don't know where the runny nose of yesterday has disappeared too, but good riddance!

What's with the BP?
My morning blood pressure has been above 140/90 for the last three days. (My average for last month has been 137/88.) Is it the cold that seems to be lingering in the background?I worked out OK in the morning before heading out to celebrate Chinese New Year's but by afternoon the nose was running again like an open faucet. This evening, I'm all stuffed up.

Running with a runny nose
The aches and pains in the right leg have subsided but now the nose is runny. I went through a lot of Kleenex this afternoon.
To rest or not, that was the question. I Googled the subject and discovered that researchers at Ball University had found "moderate exercise did not affect the duration or intensity of symptoms of an upper respiratory infection."
The conclusion? "If your cold symptoms are from the neck up, go for it. If your symptoms extend below the neck and include chest discomfort or deep cough, general aches and pains, and fever, hit the bed instead of the road. Rest, don't run."

Right knee is complaining
Had to slow the pace to Stroll/Jog as the right knee was complaining. But did the scheduled 35 mions. These days, time in motion is more important than speed or distance.

Ultimate Mac 'N Cheese

No time for the planned 40 minutes as we decided to make our first macaroni-and-cheese dish for a visit to my sister's this evening. We selected a Tyler Florence recipe with bacon and extra-old cheddar, and did it ever turn out delicious!
